Dragons were a theme this week. The kid’s painted dragon eyes and made dragon eggs out of Model Magic. They marbled paper and created serpent collages using printing techniques. Embellishing cigar boxes with paint, and paper they had marbled, made a perfect home for some dragon eggs. One of this weeks camper’s was from Bologna Italy, and we challenged ourselves with learning Italian words. Pietro’s favorite treat was the Freezie, a word that is universal in every language.
This week of art sampler camp was all boys who love to build stuff with cardboard and wooden sticks. Using hot glue guns and razor knives, the boys built cars, planes, boats, and abstract sculpture. They created zentangles using pens and markers and another day they painted flowers with acrylics and snake eyes with oil pastels. There was a day of printmaking with linoleum blocks and sculpting creatures out Model Magic, a clay-like material. Competitive Ping Pong was a favorite during break time!
Sampler Camp is a week of making art where kids have a chance to try painting, drawing, sculpture, and print making tailored to the ages of the group and their interests. We look at different artists, practice color theory, and work on drawing skills.
This week we painted “Pop Art” Flowers with acrylics and used chalk pastels to paint cats inspired by the artist Paul Klee. One day we made linoleum block prints of our favorite animals. On another day we marbled paper. Using Magic Model, a clay-like material, we sculpted insects and small creatures, then painted colorful habitats for them. Everyone enjoyed lots of summer fun getting wet in the pools.
